Muse to the Rescue as Kings of Leon Cancel Euro Shows After ‘Freak Accident’

Hey festival fam — we’ve got some bittersweet news from the rock world this morning. Kings of Leon have officially pulled out of their European festival dates for the next six weeks after frontman Caleb Followill suffered a very unlucky accident. But fear not: fellow rock giants Muse have stepped in to save the day for fans in Portugal and Spain!
It all kicked off when Caleb shared the news that he’d broken his foot “pretty badly” while playing with his kids — talk about a dad-level injury, right? “It’s pretty gnarly,” he admitted on social media. “I’ll spare all the details, but I’ve had emergency surgery, and the docs say no touring or standing for the next eight weeks.” Ouch.
That means Kings of Leon — made up of brothers Caleb, Nathan, and Jared, plus cousin Matthew Followill — will miss all their planned festival dates in the UK and Europe for June and July. That’s a huge blow for fans who were looking forward to belting out Sex on Fire in the sunshine.
In the UK, Blackweir Fields has been cancelled completely, and Lytham Festival has scrapped one of its days in response to the band’s withdrawal.
But it’s not all doom and gloom: Muse are here to bring the noise! Matt Bellamy and the boys are stepping in as headliners at NOS Alive Festival near Lisbon and Mad Cool Festival in Madrid, both in July. Absolute heroes.
Muse — who formed back in 1994 in Devon and have been blowing our minds ever since with hits like Supermassive Black Hole — are already busy on a European run this summer, playing shows in Finland, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and Poland throughout June and July. They’ve sold over 20 million albums across nine releases, so you know they’ll deliver a killer show.
Meanwhile, O Son do Camiño festival in Spain has lined up Kasabian as a replacement headliner for a Spain and Portugal exclusive — not too shabby, right?
And for those wondering about August, Kings of Leon are still on the bill for Newcastle’s Come Together Festival and Portsmouth’s Victorious Festival. Both events have confirmed they’re expecting Caleb and co. to bring the rock — broken foot or not!
Speaking to fans, Caleb admitted the whole thing is a “big bummer,” adding: “We’d been preparing for this tour for a long time, and now we’re going to have to pivot. But everything’s going to be good — hopefully we’ll see y’all soon.”
Hold tight, rockers — with Muse and Kasabian stepping in, and Kings of Leon aiming for a late-summer return, there’s still plenty to get excited about on the festival front!
