Bearded Theory 2025: A Grassroots Gem in Derbyshire
Share On
Grab your glitter and pack your wellies because Bearded Theory is back! The much-loved, multi-award-winning independent festival returns to the gorgeous grounds of Catton Park, Derbyshire, from 21st to 25th May 2025, bringing with it an eclectic lineup and that unique community-driven, grassroots magic we’ve all come to adore.
A Festive Lineup Reveal to Remember
Over December, Bearded Theory delivered their lineup announcements in the most charming way—through a virtual advent calendar on Instagram. Every day, festival fans unwrapped a new name, and let me tell you, the gifts did not disappoint!
Among the highlights: Mercury Prize winners English Teacher, who’ll be kicking things off on Thursday, and Paul Heaton (yes, the legend himself), closing the Pallet Stage alongside special guest singer Rianne Downey.
And the new names? Oh, they’re absolute belters! From the smoky, haunting tones of Nadine Shah to the whimsical indie charm of Katy J Pearson, there’s something for everyone. Want a bit of punk energy? Chicago’s own Mannequin Pussy has you covered. Prefer genre-defying brilliance? Enter Ezra Furman, who never fails to blow minds. And let’s not forget Bradford’s alt-rock kings Terrorvision, Glaswegian icons The Vaselines, and post-punk up-and-comers Gurriers.
Still need more? How about Britpop veterans The Alarm, indie pop darlings The Lottery Winners, theatrical grunge queen Du Blonde, and even a DJ set from BBC 6Music’s Chris Hawkins? It’s a dream lineup that’s just as vibrant as Bearded Theory’s heart and soul.
The Big Headliners
Of course, the previously announced headliners are nothing short of iconic. We’re talking:
- Iggy Pop (yes, the Godfather of Punk himself)
- The legendary Manic Street Preachers
- Gothic rock pioneers The Sisters of Mercy
- Electronic trailblazers Leftfield
And the list doesn’t stop there: Yard Act, The Mary Wallopers, Ash, CMAT, Nova Twins, and the genre-blending chaos of Fat Dog are all set to make this one unforgettable weekend.

Dancing Into the Night at CODA
Last year, Bearded Theory introduced a brand-new dance area, CODA, and it was an instant hit. This year, it’s back—and it’s bigger. None other than Phil Hartnoll of Orbital will be headlining the tent, curating an entire night of electronic delights on Saturday. Expect beats, bass, and a party vibe that’ll keep you grooving into the early hours.
A Festival for the Whole Family
Bearded Theory isn’t just for the grown-ups. Their award-winning Children’s Area is home to the UK’s first on-site Festival School. Yes, you read that right. Kids can enrol for a day of learning that’s anything but boring—think budgeting lessons disguised as maths, PE sessions led by Derby County FC, yoga, parkour, circus skills, and even BSL classes. How cool is that?
Eight Stages of Fun
From the big names gracing the Pallet and Meadow stages to the enchanting vibes of the Woodland Stage, Bearded Theory’s compact site packs a serious punch. Whether you’re moshing at the main stages or swaying under the trees, there’s magic in every corner.
Flexible Payments, Big Value
Worried about the cost? Fear not. Bearded Theory offers monthly payment plans, so you can spread the cost right up until May 2025.
